Luke Chapter 7 (Part 2)
Jesus, the sinful woman and Simon the Pharisee
Read Luke 7:36-50
Verses 41-43—What provoked Jesus to tell this story? Jesus could read Simon's thoughts, which went something like this: "Why would Jesus let such a sinner touch Him?"
Notice the contrast between Simon and the woman.
How they viewed themselves—Simon was self-righteous, the woman realized she needed forgiveness
How they treated Jesus
What was the normal custom?
To provide water for your guests' feet
Simon did not do this for Jesus.
The woman did—with her tears. To provide anointing oil.
Simon did not do this.
The woman did—she perfumed His feet.
Note: Simon had wealth. The woman did not.To greet with a kiss (on the cheek).
Simon did not do this.
The woman did—she kissed His feet.
The woman loved because she was forgiven. Her faith brought her salvation. Her faith caused her to respond in love.
