Chapter Three

Read Galatians chapter 3

The following are the lists we composed about some of the key words in Galatians chapter 3. In this chapter we continue on from chapter 2, and gain more insights into “Law” and “Faith” - and we learn more about Jesus.

What do we learn from key words?

Spirit

We receive the Spirit by hearing with faith - not through works of

   the law

We are perfected by the Spirit, not by works of the flesh

God has provided us with the Spirit and works miracles among us by

hearing with faith, not by works of the Law

Law

Those who are under the law are cursed (the law has been replaced

with the New Covenant, which is grace through faith) - because it

is not possible to abide by all things written in the law

No one is justified by the Law

The law is not of faith - on the contrary

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law

The Law came 430 years after the covenant with Abraham - it does

not nullify the promise to Abraham and his Seed

The inheritance of Abraham is not based on law

The law was added to define sin

It was ordained through angels, by the hand of a mediator until Christ

   came

The law is not able to impart life, and righteousness is not based on

   law

The law is not contrary to the promises of God, but rather was given

to keep us in custody until faith came.

The law served as our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be

   justified by faith

Faith

By hearing with faith, we receive the Spirit

It is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham

The Scriptures foretold that God wold justify the Gentiles by faith

Those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham

The covenant of faith was not revealed while the law was in effect -

the law led us to faith in Christ

Now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor (the law).

We are sons of God through faith in Christ

What do we learn about Jesus?

Was clearly portrayed among you as crucified

He redeemed us from the curse of the Law - He became a curse for

us (took our place and paid the price)

In Christ, we receive the blessing of Abraham - and we receive the

promise of the Spirit through faith

Jesus is the seed of Abraham

We are baptized into Christ and clothed with Christ

We are all one in Christ

Because we belong to Christ, we are Abraham’s descendants, heirs

   according to promise.
