Chapter Two
Read Galatians chapter 2
The following are the lists we composed about some of the key words in Galatians chapter 2. By listing what you learn from the text, the meaning of the subject matter will become more clear. We encourage you to read Galatians and compile your own lists of what you learn from studying the text.
What do we learn from key words?
Circumcision (circumcised)
Was a sign of the Old Covenant, observed by the Jews (but not the Gentiles) - (represents adherence to the Old Testament law)
Uncircumcised - a term that refers to the Gentiles
The party of the circumcision - refers to those who felt new converts
needed to observe the Old Testament law (grace + works, rather
than grace + faith)
Faith
We are justified through faith in Jesus
We are to live by faith in Christ, who gave Himself up for us
Law
No man is justified by the works of the Law
The law leads us to Christ - dying to the law, we now live by faith - to
go back to the law is to transgress the law of grace
If we could be made righteous through the law, then Christ died
needlessly
Galatians chapter 2 also tells us about Jesus. Here is a list of what we
learned about Him.
What do we learn about Jesus?
Jesus makes us free from the OT law (bondage) - (through Him we
are now under grace)
If we believe in Him, we are justified by our faith
To be crucified with Christ, is to die to self, and to allow Christ to live
in you - by faith
