"Jesus is Coming!"
As we move into the season of Advent, we are awaiting and celebrating the miracle of God becoming flesh through Jesus Christ.
I cannot imagine Advent without the wreath and candles. The wreath itself, which is made of various evergreens, signifies continuous life. The circle of the wreath, which has no beginning or end, symbolizes the eternity of God, the immortality of the soul, and the everlasting life we find in Christ.
This wreath should help us focus on preparing for Christ’s coming. The reality is this. We are distracted from this symbol of faith, hope, joy, and peace, with our unending Christmas preparations. I think Jesus is disappointed in our misplaced priorities. We are forgetting what Jesus has asked, no commanded of us.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Make it your mission that when Jesus shows up, he will find you following his commandments. Set your Christmas shopping aside if you need to.
I know you know this, but I am reminding you. When you come to Jesus and turn to him and ask for forgiveness, you will be redeemed. Go to Jesus in your own heart and surrender again and be washed clean by his Grace. Right now. He is with us always.
